Thankful Thursday

I participated in Thankful Thursday for the first time last week. I enjoyed it so much because it forced my heart to be thankful for even the small things in my life .... the things I don't necessarily think about being thankful for. I wondered if I would have anything to post about this week. I'm overflowing, I tell you! But, I'll give you the short version....

  • I'm thankful for Barb at A Chelsea Morning. She had a drawing for the wedding favors leftover from her daughter's wedding. They are recipe cards that include recipes from different family members. I'm not a great cook. I try my best. I've made several of Barb's recipes now that her blog is a food blog (just kidding, Barb). Seriously, she posts the most amazing pictures of the 'stages' of her preparation which helps a cook-in-training immensely. I entered her contest and I won! I can't believe it because I never win anything. I'm so excited to have these cards because I know how much time, love and work she put into making them for her daughter. Barb has a special place in my heart. She and her sister, Bev at Scratchin' the Surface were the first people to leave comments on my blog, not that I blog for that reason, but they are both so nice and encouraging to me. Thank you, sweet Barb!

  • I'm thankful for my parents who agreed to having O.'s 2nd birthday party during their 4th of July celebration. I can't believe she is turning 2!

  • I'm thankful for my Mom. I had a post that told what my blog was rated. I posted it but didn't realize there was a small tag under it for a dating service. My Mom clicked on it and was shocked to say the least. She wanted to know why I was promoting a dating service. Ha Ha.. Moms.... I deleted the post, but rest assured, I'm rated 'G'.

  • I'm thankful for my Sunday School class. I teach high school girls, and I sometimes think if I didn't have this class, I wouldn't be in the Word nearly as much. So, I'm thankful for the time that I have to study.

  • I'm thankful O. didn't have a reaction to the 21 mosquito bites she got Saturday night. She played outside for an hour with Eric and E. and was the only one bit ... 21 times. When this happened last year, the day before her birthday, she ran a really high fever. We didn't know why at the time. When we took her to the dr., he couldn't get over how low her platelet count was and told us we should prepare ourselves for the worst ... leukemia. She went through many tests for weeks all too conclude that she was fine. Something had entered her blood stream quickly to produce such results. The 30-some mosquito bites. This time around, she had no reaction. Just itching.

  • I'm thankful Eric was able to buff out the green paint (on my silver car) where someone ran into my car, but drove off. He buffed it out and all is well.

  • I'm thankful E. had such a great time at our neighbor's VBS this week. Tonight is the final program and she is so excited we're coming to watch.

  • I'm thankful Eric is taking E. on a date with just the 2 of them. She's excited to spend some alone time with her Daddy.

  • I'm thankful for appointments orchestrated by God. I saw someone Tuesday night from my past and was so encouraged by it. I adore this man. Only God arranges such meetings to let us know we're okay and we're on the right path.

  • I'm thankful Eric has a week off from work next week. We have NO plans ... Yay!

  • I'm thankful I found this verse this week. When I get my new blog look (yes, I think one is coming), I'm going to have this verse on my header.....

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,

continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him,

strengthened in the faith as you were taught,

and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6-7 NIV

Hi Deidre,
I'm stopping by for the first time. I love your blog design! I could just sit and look at the photo for a long time and drink it in! Susie did mine, also. She's such an artist.

Congrats on winning Barb's recipes! And, p.s., you're girls are beautiful.

Barb indeed is so much fun to hang out with. I didn't realize her contest until she had it all wrapped up *sigh*.
You Mom is just too funny -- my blog was rated "G" as well, but I never posted it. Glad I didn't *smile*.
Ouch, 21 mosquito bits -- she must be very sweet, your little O....
I am glad that your E will be able to spend some time with her daddy.

What a beautiful verse. But I think you have a beautiful blog here :)

Thank you so much for sharing your grateful heart with us this week.

Be blessed today and always.

What a wonderful list, Deidre! You truly have a thankful heart...I need more of that myself today.

How neat that you were at Blowing Rock and Boone on Saturday...we barely missed eachother! We were actually in that area on Wednesday...when we went to The Tweetsie Railroad. I imagined all week that I was going to run into someone from the blog world that I knew was from NC! I do not know what you look like, though...I wish some of us could meet! I would love that!

North Carolina was gorgeous!

You are so kind, Deidre. Thank you for your sweet words. I'm tickled pink your name was one of the thirty drawn for the wedding favor.

I discovered that the best thing in the world to stop the itching of mosquito bites is Benedryl. The scratching little kids do after they're bitten can lead to worse problems so Benedryl always worked for me.

It also has the added benefit of making them sleepy. LOL
