It's the Simple Things, Really

Have I mentioned how much I dislike the 167 degree heat? I do. I thought my girls were not bothered by it until this morning when I woke to O standing beside my bed with her snow boots on. As I tried to focus on what I was sure was a dream she said, "Mommy, I want to play in the snow."

I reminded her it was summer and too hot for snow. She started to cry loudly and because I am a mature woman and wished I was still asleep, I started to cry loudly as well.

She got quiet and stared at me in shock.

Tantrum averted. New success.

So, today started a little rocky but it promises to redeem itself since we have cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping to do.

I'm also finishing yet another bathroom makeover. (I know - I haven't yet shared with you the pictures from the previous one). We had enough flooring left over to do the girls' bathroom, so Eric finished that on Saturday. Neither bathroom is entirely completed - both needing molding and the girls' bathroom still needs paint on the cabinets. We painted the walls pink. It's a lot of work, but I'm happy it looks like a girls bathroom now instead of the safari green the previous owners used for their two little boys.

I promise to show pictures when it's all finished.

So, what do I do with the girls if I have to paint?

Make a 'clubhouse'.

Do you know what I call this? Pure sanity.

I've made clubhouses for E since she was a baby - usually on rainy days - which consists of 2 blankets thrown over the kitchen table leaving one side open to enter and exit.

The inside was packed with crafts, lanterns and a change of clothes (not sure what that's about, but they change under there every hour or so ?? )

I put this together on Saturday morning and was quickly catapulted to Mom of the Year. O thought it was brilliant and begged me to never.ever.never. take it down. I even had to bribe them to stop playing so we could leave the house to go swimming. I kept it up for three days until Eric and I got tired of eating dinner standing up holding our plates.

I had to move the party upstairs to E's room by putting this up.

They both slept there last night and are having a blast.

It's the simple things. Our kids really don't need a lot to make them happy, do they?

Except for snow in the middle of summer. I haven't quite figured out how to make that magic happen.

Great tent!! I used to love to make tents when I was little and I made them for my kids when they were little too. Hours of simple fun, right?

What a fun Mama you are!! Too cute. And you are so right to know that it's really the simple things that they will remember!

I was reading through the new verses on the LPM blog and saw your name and that you are from NC. I love that state! I love the accent you most likely talk with if you grew up there. I have several NC friends and I just LOVE to hear them talk! And I bet you can sing too! Never met anyone from NC that couldn't!

I have read about 10 or 12 of your blogposts so far and totally enjoyed them so much!

God bless and nice to meet you!
