No longer blending in

The girls and I arrived safely at our hotel about an hour before Eric got off work. We walked through the lobby and O took off toward the check in counter .... and proceeded to knock on the counter to get the employee's attention. A man looked waaaayyy over the counter to see O standing there. She blurts out .... "Hello, my name is O____ and I'm here to get into my Daddy's room. Could you hurry? I have to pee-pee."

Dear private, shy Deidre. You have spent your entire life trying to blend in and possibly even become invisible. One day you will have a child that shatters all those hopes for you. You will be walking around as if a giant spotlight is following you, so get used to it.

We finally made it to the elevator and as the doors close, I threaten O to keep her mouth closed the rest of the afternoon.

And, it worked. It really did.

For a whole 60 seconds.

We get to our room and find housekeeping finishing up cleaning the room and closing the door. "Who's that?", O says. I tell her it's a lady that just got our room ready and then I see O turn to her and open her mouth .... don't do it, O. Don't you embarrass me.

It's too late.

She YELLS, "Thank you for cleaning our room. I have GOT to get in there and use the potty. I've had too much fiber!"

Dear O, what are you? 80 years old? I regret the day you ever heard your Daddy and me talk about putting fiber in your drink each morning. What was meant to help you has caused ME great stress .... and in serious need of counseling. I am no longer 'blending in'.

Oh my word, I am dying!!! I can't wait to meet little O in person! And as a fellow shy, easily embarrassed person i am shocked that I don't have a little O myself. Oh no, maybe that will be #3!
