Scripture Memory

It's the 15th of the month, which means it's time to commit another verse to memory. I know I haven't recorded my verses on this blog in awhile so for posterity, I thought I would today.

Verse 1, January 1st: Isaiah 43: 18-19

Verse 2, January 15th: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Verse 3, February 1st: Psalm 119:133

Verse 4, February 15th: Galatians 2:20

Verse 5, March 1st: Psalm 18:16-19

Verse 6, March 15th: Romans 8:1

Verse 7, April 1st: Ephesians 4:29

Verse 8, April 15th: Hebrews 12:1-2

Verse 9, May 1st: Philippians 1:6

Verse 10, May 15th: Hebrews 4:16

Verse 11, June 1st: 1 Corinthians 1:27

Verse 12, June 15th: 2 Timothy 1:7

Verse 13, July 1st: Hebrews 4:12

I have a couple of revelations concerning this time spent memorizing scripture....

1) God is purposeful in what He wants from me. Always. There are days I go to sign in my verse on the LPM Blog and I simply cannot type the one I think I need. I end up committing to a scripture that makes no sense to me. What I'm learning is that I will end up in serious need of the verse God impresses upon me. It was Him all along preparing what I would need for deliverance.

2) Because of #1, I'm ashamed of how many times I have had to recall Ephesians 4:29 (you can click on scripture references above to see the entire verse). Seriously ashamed. I am terrible at this.

3) But, then praise God for His promises in Hebrews 4:16!

4) I completely WEAR OUT 2 Corinthians 10:4-5. Wear.it.out!

5) I could be discouraged by the amount of times I have had to recall Psalm 18:16-19 and Romans 8:1 .... but, praise God He promises deliverance and help and strength. Without Him, I would be consumed.

Which brings me to today's verse....

2 Chronicles 20:17 (NKJV) 17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”

Amen and amen.

I love what Beth Moore wrote on her post this morning that says, "Scripture memory alone will just make you arrogant. Lapping up those Scriptures like they are the only spring in your desert will make you different."

That's what I want! To be different .... always looking to change!

Reminds me of this verse that I now have posted in my kitchen: "I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." Job 23:12b

That's what I'm striving for ... to crave a word from the Lord more than any other thing in my life and believing wholeheartedly that's where my satisfaction comes from. Saying and living it are too different things!

Oh I love that last verse from Job. I like reading the verses that others have chosen. At times it can be difficult to choose one for myself. I, too, am enjoying this opportunity to memorize scripture and have the accountability. Thanks for sharing the ones you have chosen.
