Squashing More Fears

We spent the day tying up loose ends as far as school goes.  I had to buy both girls new tennis shoes and wept again because I had to find Emma's in the women's section.

For the love.

I need to stop fighting it.  She's growing leaps and bounds and I can't do anything about it.

Oh, and guess what? Shoes for women are MUCH more expensive than kids'.  That was maybe tougher to swallow than the actual size.

Buying school clothes for my girls is fairly easy since they wear uniforms.  I don't have to worry about everyday fall clothes until it actually turns chilly here, which is mid to late September.  I was thankful for that today when all the girls really wanted 'new' was hair accessories.

Okay, I can deal with that.

While at the mall, Emma and I casually mentioned to Olivia (again!) that today would be an excellent day to get her ears pierced.  Lately, I could tell she was softening to the idea, but couldn't get past her fears.  Olivia has a lot of anxiety about a lot of things.  Germs.  Pain.  Food.  Storms.  Whatever.

She immediately started crying and saying 'no' but then would say she wanted to.  We talked to her about it  for entirely too long, though in the end, she decided to face it head on and go for it.

Ofcourse, she started laughing the second it was over and was so proud of  herself for doing it.

Emma and I were proud of her, too!

It's hard to face your fears ... but the reward is always sweet :)

Yay Olivia! I LOVE when they can face those fears:-) She has to be so proud of herself, and now she'll always have that tangible reminder of the victory.

I need to chat with you about how your handle her anxiety about storms. Maggie has become increasingly afraid of weather related things to the point that even the smallest rumble of thunder sends her into a panic.

Would love to know how you handle it because I'm not doing so great with it.....
