God's Redeeming Love {Day 17}: God IS Love

God loves you.

That sentence, of course, says everything and yet, maybe we've grown too comfortable with it, so it loses its impact on us.

Or, how about ... God is love.

That sentence, when received, is life-changing, though maybe we've used the word LOVE so flippantly, it's lost its power in our lives and hearts.

We love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
We love chocolate.
We love football.
We love a good Sunday nap.

But, God is love is a whole 'nuther matter.  It confirms things for me like:

** He canNOT leave me alone.
** Love is the very purpose for which I was created,
** He pursues me constantly {never stopping!} – acting out of love on my behalf – using anything possible to demonstrate that love towards me.
** I am the OBJECT of His affection and obsession – NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT OBSESSION – nothing I do or do not do.
** He can’t change WHO He is … He can’t help loving me.

Psalm 103 is like healing balm for me.

Okay, I realize I say that about a lot of verses, and each time I say it, it's true.  But, I'm telling you, when I'm discouraged or feel like I've broken God's heart, I know what I need to do.

I'll curl up in my favorite chair, grab my blanket and read and re-read Psalm 103.

The title caption for Psalm 103 in my Bible says God is Love.

The passage then explains what that means exactly.  For instance ...

** He forgives my sins {verse 3}
** He heals my diseases {verse 3}
** He redeems my life from destruction {verse 4}
** He crowns me with lovingkindness and tender mercies {verse 4}
** He satisfies me with good things {verse 5}
** He is my defender {verse 6}
** He is gracious, patient and merciful {verse 8}
** He doesn't give me what I deserve and is merciful and forgiving {verse 10-11}
** He casts my sins as far as the east is from the west {verse 12}
** He is compassionate towards me {verse 13}
** He knows me {verse 14}
** His love is everlasting {verse 17}
** He is my King and is still on the Throne {verse 19}

Let those Truths wash over you today.

John Piper says,

"Get alone with God, preach His Word into your mind until
your heart sings with confidence you are cared for".

That's what we're doing this month! We're looking for a mind-transformation!!

So, get alone in your favorite chair this morning, during lunch or before you go to bed tonight and read about the steadfast love of God in Psalm 103.  These verses are inspired by God and written as a love letter to His children.  To you.

Walking in Truth:

Self-image says: I am Fatherless
God's image says:  I am God's Child

"... because those that are led by the spirit of God
are sons of God"
Romans 8:14

It's so easy to get caught up in what I'm not instead of who He is. Psalm 103 is a great reminder. He has not dealt with me according to my sins but has removed them as far as the east from the west. Because He loves me so much.

He is so different from what we see and experience here on earth. Maybe that is at least part of the reason we struggle to know that He loves us.

I love when you share this... and your heart!! I get so caught up in "stuff" that my focus goes to what I am dealing with instead of WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE CAN AND WILL DO!!!
Love ya!
