God's Redeeming Love {Day 23}: My Stability

I crave stability, along with the assurance I am safe.

My anxiety is at an all-time high when I feel threatened in either area.  When I let my mind 'go-there', I can talk myself into a mess.  This is especially true at night.  I've been known to catalog all the things I did wrong or forgot to do that day and before I know it, I'm defeated by the mere thought of facing another day, only to repeat the same.

This cycle really wasn't working out for me {duh!}.  My prayers changed dramatically when I realized I needed to stop accepting this as my reality and understand what God wanted for me instead.

I had to first understand where my stability and safety comes from.  I can look at many people or situations to create what I 'think' is stable, but if I leave out God and His ability, I am mistaken.

The only real rest comes from taking a breath, trusting and knowing God is watching over all my trials.  I can rest easy knowing He is awake, looking out for my best interests.

Just another way He loves me.

And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times,
and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure
Isaiah 33:6

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 121

We all crave stability whether we know it or not. But we are seeking it in someone other than the Lord. Our husbands, family and out friends will all fall short when we look for our stability in anyone except the Lord. Oh that I would remember this at all times!

This is one of my favorite Psalms. It helps me to remember that God is my help, He is my stability.
